Explain: What Do You Mean by Acid Reflux?

Acid reflux is a condition where stomach acids used throughout the digestive process move back into the esophagus instead of being contained in the stomach. Because of this, the esophagus is irritated and there is a burning sensation. Oftentimes there is also acid regurgitation into the mouth, leaving an extremely bitter taste.

All these are symptoms of what we understand as heartburn, which is something which affects millions of individuals in varying seriousness. Do note that if you are experiencing this for the first time, acid reflux and the consequent heartburn is a digestive disorder – you do not have a heart disease to be concerned about.

There are a variety of reasons for heartburn, but to a large extent it's unknown why some people are affected where others are not. But what is known is that for people who've experienced heartburn, its seriousness and persistence is related to the foods that are being eaten – those foods known as heartburn trigger foods, and so the requirement for an acid reflux diet.

An acid reflux diet is designed to create dietary changes to help eliminate heartburn. These changes are designed to eliminate the acid reflux trigger foods, but to also include certain foods that are known to help with heartburn.
